King Edward VI School - About Us

About Us

Headmaster's Welcome

K.E.S. is a forward-looking School which celebrates a long and distinguished history, a reputation for high academic standards and an outstanding extra-curricular programme. We are a small School that aims to provide a secure, happy and well ordered environment in which all our students are challenged to make the very best of their talents. It is a purposeful and busy place where you will find the highest standards of work, commitment and courtesy.

All subjects are taught by specialist teachers in discrete departmental areas. Traditional methods co-exist with innovative teaching and learning that embrace the very latest technologies. Our curriculum is enriched by a vast array of activities, including fieldtrips, exchanges, lectures, competitions and work-related learning. This, combined with small sets in examination classes, enables us to achieve academic results that are among the very best nationally.

We pride ourselves on providing opportunities for our students to build on existing talents whilst developing new skills and interests. There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer at lunchtime, after School, at the weekend, and in the holidays. Sport, Music and Drama are simply outstanding and rarely matched in either the State or Independent Sector. There is a major sporting fixtures programme, and regular concerts and drama productions are of the highest quality. First-class facilities and expert coaching ensure that sports teams and instrumental ensembles frequently enjoy success in national and international competitions.  Each year, as part of the extra-curricular programme, our students are able to participate in a variety of overseas tours and expeditions. All who join K.E.S. are expected and encouraged to play a full part in this rich School life.

We hope that our website gives you a flavour of life here and shows why K.E.S. is widely recognised as one of the finest grammar schools in the country.
